The majority of train cancellations that occurred this morning and yesterday were due to sabotage and planned actions by a small group of train drivers, says Deputy Minister of Transport Prasanna Gunasena.
Of the 216 daily train services, 38 were cancelled yesterday, and 35 of them were cancelled due to train drivers taking leave, he said.
Similarly, the 15 trains that were cancelled this morning (26) were due to drivers taking leave.
Due to this, many trains on the main route were cancelled this morning, causing great inconvenience to commuters.
However, after we reported on this in Hiru News this afternoon, the attention of the Deputy Minister of Transport was drawn to it.
Deputy Minister of Transport Dr. Prasanna Gunasena stated that the railway administration has agreed to implement the new decisions taken in this regard.
