Three more witnesses against Deshabandhu

Three more witnesses have given evidence today (16) at the inquiry committee appointed to investigate and report on the alleged misconduct and serious misuse of powers by IGP Deshabandhu Tennakoon.

The committee, chaired by Supreme Court Justice P.P. Surasena and comprising Justice W.M.N.P. Iddawala and National Police Commission Chairman E.W.M. Lalith Ekanayake, met in Parliament today (16) from 9.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. The following evidence was taken.

Four witnesses were to give evidence before the bench on the 11th, and one of them could not complete his testimony that day. Due to this, that witness also appeared today and his testimony was completed. In addition, three more witnesses gave their evidence today.

The investigation committee also cross-examined the Additional Solicitor General, President’s Counsel Dileepa Peiris and Deputy Solicitor General Rajitha Perera, who represented the Attorney General’s Department, and Attorney R.S. Weerawickrama, who appeared for the respondent Inspector General of Police. The investigation committee will meet again tomorrow (17) at 9.30 a.m.
