No fertilizer shortage in the Kandy district for the Maha season.

The Kandy District Deputy Director of the National Fertilizer Secretariat, W.M.W.G. Ananda, says that there will be no shortage of fertilizer in the Kandy district during the upcoming Maha season.

He said that 10976 hectares of paddy will be cultivated in the Kandy district during the 2025-26 Maha season, of which 8602 hectares will be irrigated paddy and 2373 hectares will be rainfed.

The Deputy Director expressed these views at a meeting held at the District Secretariat under the patronage of Kandy District Secretary Indika Udawatte to provide fertilizer for the upcoming Maha season.

He also mentioned that 10 institutions, including the State Fertilizer Company, have come forward to provide sufficient fertilizer stocks for both soil and mud. The Deputy Director said that these companies will meet all the fertilizer requirements of the Kandy district for the upcoming season and accordingly, 2076 metric tons of urea fertilizer will be provided.

The Deputy Director further stated that 379 metric tons of TSP fertilizer and 598 metric tons of MOP fertilizer will be distributed to farmers in the Kandy district through 45 Agrarian Service Centers.
