Director General of Health Services, Dr. Asela Gunawardena, said that there was a tendency for the “Nipa” virus to spread as an infection in several parts of the Indian state of Kerala, but it has no effect on the country.
He said this while addressing a press conference held yesterday afternoon (21) to inform people about the “Nipa” virus.
He emphasized that due to the fact that no cases of virus infection have been reported from the country, there is no need to be afraid of this situation like the Covid epidemic and therefore there is no need to lock down the country, check shops, and check passengers on flights.
Epidemiologist Dr. Samitha Ginige, who commented on the Nipah virus, said that in 1998, this virus spread at an epidemic level in Malaysia, and about 300 cases were reported there at that time. But this disease did not spread at an epidemic level.
