A permanent office has been set up to formalize the work of returning traditional lands to the people in the North and East High-Security Zones.
This office was established on the advice of the President’s Senior Adviser Sagala Ratnayake. This office, headed by an army brigadier, has to solve the relevant problem within six months.
By the year 2009, the Defense Forces had 23,850.72 acres of people’s land and it is reported that 20775.52 acres of that land has been released by the beginning of this year
