The spread of sub-strain Covid JN-1 in Sri Lanka is very low

The Ministry of Health has stated that the risk of the spread of the Covid JN-1 subtype in Sri Lanka is currently at a very low level.

However, to assess this risk, the Ministry of Health has ordered the Medical Research Institute to carry out genetic tests in collaboration with the South East Asia Regional Office of the World Health Organization.

In addition to this, steps have been taken to increase the tests for the detection of COVID-19 in the main hospitals of the island, according to the sources of the Ministry of Health.

The sources added that recent tests have reported a significantly lower number of COVID-19 cases.

The Ministry of Health emphasizes the importance of following disease prevention measures as this situation is a very encouraging trend. These include wearing face mask, frequent hand washing, maintaining social distance, and practicing proper cough and sneeze etiquette to prevent the spread of influenza and respiratory illnesses.
