Presidential Secretariat Orders Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Security Vehicles to Be Returned
The Presidential Secretariat has informed that three security vehicles used by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s security officers must be handed over to the government.
In response, Sagara Kariyawasam, the Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, former Member of Parliament, and lawyer, expressed concerns. He emphasized that as the leader who ended the war in the country, it is uncertain when the threat to the life of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa will end. He argued that it is inappropriate to take such action without a proper assessment of the threats he may still face.
Kariyawasam further questioned whether the intelligence agencies were consulted before this decision was made.
This action has been taken before the release of the official recommendations.of the committee appointed by the President to look into the privileges of former Presidents.
