Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga told journalists yesterday afternoon that there is no constitutional provision to postpone the presidential election.
She said this while answering a question raised by journalists after an event organized by the United Republic Front in Colombo yesterday afternoon.
The former president who refused to comment on a question raised by journalists regarding the assurance given by the President’s Office recently that a presidential election will be held despite the opinion that the executive presidential system will be abolished, she said:
“The only thing I can say is that the presidential election can never be postponed.”
