The Attorney General informed the Supreme Court today (27) that the Gazette notification issued stating that only male candidates can apply for the post of Station Master in the Sri Lanka Railways has been referred to the Cabinet for amendment.
This was when the Fundamental Rights Petition filed by two women, Ayeshani Jayawardena and Suresh Vidusha, challenging this decision, was considered today.
When the case was taken up before the three-judge Supreme Court bench of Justices Preethi Padman Surasena, Kumuduni Wickramasinghe and Sampath Wijeratne, Senior State Counsel Nayanathara Balapatabendi made this announcement before the court.
The bench then ordered the petition to be taken up again on October 30.
