The person suspected of being the shooter in the murder of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha chairman was arrested in Nawinna, Maharagama last night.
A man and a woman were arrested in a raid conducted based on intelligence information that three people involved in this murder were hiding in the Kekirawa area. Police sources confirm that one of the people present there fled at that time and was the one who was arrested in Nawinna last night.
The Criminal Investigation Department and the Financial Crimes Investigation Division conducted a joint operation to arrest him, the sources said. The State Intelligence Service also provided assistance for this.
The main suspect who was arrested and the other two suspects have been handed over to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) for further investigation.
