According to police sources, the head and limbless body discovered yesterday afternoon on the banks of the Kelani River in the Siambalape area has been confirmed to be that of TG Pradeepa, a 51-year-old woman who had gone missing from the Mulleriya area on the 27th.
Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Advocate Nihal Talduwa, provided further information on this matter, stating that the victim’s identity has been established by her relatives.
In response to a complaint filed by her daughter, who reported her mother’s disappearance since the 27th, the Mulleriya police initiated preliminary investigations.
As part of their inquiry, the police reviewed CCTV footage, which revealed how the woman traveled from Angoda to Kaduwela in a blue three-wheeler. The footage also captured the woman’s arrival at a restaurant, accompanied by an individual in the driver’s seat of a car parked near the eatery in the heart of Kaduwela.
After purchasing food at the restaurant, the woman left the premises in a gray car with license plate KI 3030, as recorded on the CCTV camera. The police noted that the woman in question has been missing since that time.
During the investigation focused on the aforementioned car, it was confirmed that the vehicle belonged to a businessman named Sudheera Wasantha, who resides in the Siyambalape area.
While conducting a searching a abandon house belonging to Sudheera Wasantha’s in Siyambalape, Mulleriya police discovered long hair and bloodstains within one of the rooms. They also found fragments of women’s clothing with bloodstains, some of which were partially burnt outside the house.
Subsequently, with the assistance of the Sapugaskanda Police, an investigation led to the discovery of a decapitated and limbless female body on the banks of the Kelani River, located approximately one kilometer from the residence.
The police have revealed that the woman in question had a close relationship with Sudheera Wasantha for about 20 years. They had been embroiled in disputes, particularly over financial matters, despite both being married. The police are appealing to the public for assistance in apprehending the suspect, Sudheera Wasantha.
