The government is not trying to pay compensation but to give water to crops

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Amaraweera says that the Ministry of Agriculture has not taken any decision regarding the import of rice.

He said that although a surplus of rice was expected, the current dry weather has hindered it, but there will not be a large reduction in the rice harvest.

The minister said that many rice fields have become vulnerable due to the large reduction of water in the Udawalawa Reservoir, but measures will be taken to provide maximum relief for the farmers’ rice fields and the main objective is not to pay compensation but to supply water.

The Minister of Agriculture expressed these views while participating as the chief guest in the celebration ceremony held at the Kundasale Agricultural College today on the occasion of its 75th anniversary.
