With the detention of a batch of BYD electric cars from China by the customs at the Hambantota port, there is a possibility of a diplomatic dispute between China and Sri Lanka, says Harsha de Silva, Chairman of the Finance Committee of the Parliament.
The MP said that a decision should be taken regarding these vehicles as soon as possible without allowing that situation to develop. The MP also said that the relevant tests should be carried out in accordance with international standards.
He said that a fertilizer ship brought from China during the fertilizer crisis in this country had a similar problem, and pointed out that when it was inspected by a company in Singapore, different reports came out and the results were not the same in Sri Lanka.
Accordingly, he said that this should be managed without escalating into a diplomatic issue.
