The Beggars

Deputy Minister Nalin Hewage made a derogatory statement targeting Rohini Kavirathna. Minister Harshana Nanayakkara made a statement that former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was a beggar. Both of these statements were made in Parliament.

Beggars are people who live by begging from others. It is a well-known fact that people who do so do not have a job or source of income of their own. These beggars eat and drink what others give them. They wear what others give. They travel at the expense of others. You have no doubt seen beggars who shake a ”tin” for their daily needs.

But there are also other geoup who receive food, drink and clothing from others. They represent a certain political group. The members of that group, who have held positions ranging from MP to President, representing the Pradeshiya Sabha, Provincial Council and Parliament, not only receive the salaries and allowances prescribed for their positions, but also pensions, while they live off the property of others.

They continue to roam the streets begging. Not only that, the seniors say that the members of that political group have been robbing and stealing since the beginning of their political movement. There is evidence in history that they have also been involved in bank robbery and theft to increase their party funds. The money they have earned from the wealth stolen in this way and from begging from people on the streets has been deposited in banks, making that political group the richest political force in Sri Lanka. Today, that group called former President as a ”beggar”, They’re doing so under the pretext of the privileges of Parliament. That political group is famous not only for begging but also for looting.

As we know, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is not a beggar. On his mother’s party, he is the grandson of D.R. Wijewardene and Helena Wijewardene, a great tycoon of ceylon. On his father’s party, Ranil is the grandson of C.L. Wickremesinghe. C.L. is the first Sinhala Government Agent. He is the planner of the farming colany movement of the father of the nation, D.A. Senanayake.

Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Ranil did not receive his parliamentary salary. There were many occasions when he gave money from his personal account after the budget tea party. He maintains several child orphanages with his personal account. He was generous enough to donate his private house, which was destroyed by fire during the struggle, and even the library worth crores of rupees, to the school he studied at.

In fact, Ranil is not dependent on others. He has no such need. But those who call him a beggar are get all their needs from others. We know that because they, themselves made such statements some time ago. This situation shows that there is more dirty in the parliament that was cleaned by calling a national level ”Shramadan.”

Ranil is silent in the midst of this slander. That is because he is not only rich in wealth but also in attitudes. That must be why Ranil said last week that ”Ferrari license holders have no business with those who drive vehicles with L boards.”
