The Attorney General did not appear on behalf of the Speaker.

It is reported that the Attorney General did not appear before the Court of Appeal today (27) on behalf of the Speaker, who is named as a respondent in the petition filed challenging the suspension of Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne.

The State Counsel appearing for the Attorney General informed the court that she would not be appearing for the respondent Speaker. When the case was taken up, President’s Counsel K. Kanageeswaran appeared before the Court of Appeal on behalf of Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne.

The petition has been filed by the Parliamentary Consultative Committee, which has filed a charge sheet challenging the suspension of Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne.

When the petition was taken up yesterday, Deputy Solicitor General Chaya Sri Nammuni, who appeared for the Speaker, informed the court that she is ready to consider the matter for settlement.
