The government is also being pressured to implement the law against those responsible for the series of Easter attacks. In such a context, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya has expressed concern about the steps taken by the government to provide justice to the victims of the 2019 Easter Sunday suicide bombings.
The party says that the government should focus on taking truly effective steps in line with the promises made by the government regarding the Easter attacks.
At a press conference held in Colombo yesterday, the party’s MP Nalin Bandara also expressed his views on this matter.
He pointed out that the government should take steps to bring those responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks to justice.
The MP also expressed his views on the arrest of Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan at the press conference. He said that the government tried to portray Pillayan’s arrest as a move related to the Easter Sunday attacks, but he was arrested for murder.
Although the government used the Prevention of Terrorism Act to detain Pillayan, the government promised to repeal it, MP Nalin Bandara said.
If Pillayan had committed any wrongdoing, he should be punished, but he pointed out that other laws could have been implemented for that purpose, apart from the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
