The Thai government has focused its attention on bringing back two elephants donated to Sri Lanka by the Thai government. The Thai media has quoted the Thai government as saying that a discussion is scheduled to be held with the Sri Lankan government on October 28.
The Thai government is said to have taken this decision due to the poor treatment shown by the Sri Lankan government regarding the two elephants.
It is also reported that the same process followed to repatriate Sak Surin, also known as ‘Muthuraja’, who was repatriated from Sri Lanka to Thailand in 2023, is to be used to repatriate these two elephants.
The two elephants are known as Plai Pratu Pha and Plai Srinarong. It is also reported that one of them is the first elephant calf donated to Sri Lanka from Thailand in 1979 at the age of 12.
