According to a tip-off received by the Habarana Police, a 10-month-old baby was found dead in a house in the Bulanagama area of Palugaswewa.
The child’s mother is said to have confessed to the police that she threw the baby into a water hole behind the house on the night of January 16th when her husband was not there.
Following police investigations, the incident has been identified as a murder, and the 34-year-old suspect has been arrested. After the Magistrate’s investigation, the baby’s body has been sent to the Polonnaruwa Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
The two siblings of the deceased baby were also present at the house.
The Habarana Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
