Grade 5 Scholarship examinetion tutor Hayeshika Fernando alias ‘Teacher Amma’, who had attacked a young man’s testicles and fled the area, surrendered to the Negombo Magistrate’s Court this afternoon (14) and was released on bail by Negombo Additional Magistrate Darshima Premaratne.
The case was taken up before the court at around 12.00 this afternoon and the Katana Police stated that the main suspect has not been found yet. About twenty minutes after the case began, Hayeshika Fernando entered the court dressed in a white saree and wearing a face mask. President’s Counsel Anuj Premaratne, appearing for the accused, presented her to the Additional Magistrate along with her identity card. She was then taken to the courts.
At that time, President’s Counsel Anuja Premaratne requested bail on behalf Hayeshika fernando, while President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa requested bail on behalf of her husband and manager.
At that time, the President’s Counsel stated that this court does not have the authority to hear this case and that it is a case that should be submitted to the Mediation Board.
At that time, a panel of lawyers including the two President’s Counsels presented arguments at length and requested bail on behalf of the five suspects.
After considering all the arguments presented, the Additional Magistrate ordered the release of the five suspects including Hayeshika Fernando on two surety bonds of one million rupees each.
Accordingly, Hayeshika Fernando, her husband Chanaka Vishwajith, manager Pranith Surendra, Dilan, and Malisha were granted bail.
The police were ordered to inform the court about the progress of the investigation and the accused were ordered to provide the CCTV footage to the police.
The case is scheduled to be heard again on September 17. The case was conducted by Katana Police Sub-Inspector Priyantha Lal.
There was a public protest on the road when Teacher Amma and her group were brought before the court and the protesters are demanding the maximum punishment for her.
