Tamil Nadu’s Cattle Tamer Introduces JalliKattu to Sri Lanka

A special event was organized yesterday in Trincomalee to celebrate Thai Pongal, the harvest festival celebrated by Tamil people all over the world. It was special that it included the “JalliKattu” game of taming cattle, which had not been seen before in Sri Lanka. Accordingly Trincomalee went down in history as the first place outside Tamil Nadu where JalliKattu was held.

More than 200 bulls and more than 100 bull tamers participated in the event organized by Eastern Province Governor Mr. Senthil Thondaman and the Tourism Bureau.

The event was held in front of thousands of people at the Sambur Public Playground in Trincomalee, the capital of Sri Lanka’s Eastern Province. Eastern Province Governor Sendhil Thondaman joined the event as the chief guest.
