Suspension of extension of foreign workers’ vehicle import permits

When the Parliament’s Committee on Ways and Means met yesterday, attention was drawn to the electric vehicle import license provided to encourage migrant workers.

The second meeting was held at the Parliament premises under the chairmanship of the Chairman of the Committee, Member of Parliament Mr. Patali Champika Ranawaka.

There, the Committee discussed the progress of the forensic audit conducted by the Auditor General regarding the irregularities in granting licenses to Sri Lankans working abroad to import electric vehicles. Officials of the National Audit Office were called for that.

The committee advised to suspend the gazette for extending licenses to import electric vehicles for Sri Lankans employed abroad until the forensic audit conducted by the Auditor General is completed.
