Supreme Court upholds Vaas Gunawardena’s sentence.

The Supreme Court today (08) upheld the death sentence given by a three-member High Court bench to six defendants, including former DIG Vas Gunawardena, and his son Ravindu Gunawardena, in connection with the kidnapping and killing of Mohammad Shyam, a millionaire businessman residing in Bambalapitiya area in 2013. .

The Supreme Court dismissed the appeal petitions filed by Vas Gunawardena and other defendants demanding that they be acquitted of those punishments.

After a long trial, the Supreme Court gave this verdict and among the defendants, a sub-inspector and three police constables were also included among the accused who were sentenced to death.
