President Anura Dissanayake has drawn attention to the supply of vegetables in the Nuwara Eliya district. At the Nuwara Eliya District Committee meeting held this afternoon, the President inquired from officials regarding the damage caused to the agricultural sector in the district and the steps to be taken in this regard.
1,421 hectares of vegetable crops in the Nuwara Eliya district have been damaged due to the adverse weather conditions, and the President has instructed officials to take the necessary steps to promptly compensate the farmers.
Officials pointed out that the reduction in the vegetable harvest in the Nuwara Eliya district is about 25% despite the damage to crops, and noted that although the daily supply of vegetables can be made to the Nuwara Eliya district, a decrease in daily demand is observed.
The officials have also informed the President that the reason for this is the false news that there is a shortage of vegetables in the Nuwara Eliya district and that prices have increased.
