The Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel has issued a set of instructions to Sri Lankans working in Israel due to the growing unrest in the Middle East region.
The statement states that those in Israel should not have undue fear for their safety due to misinformation spread by the media and certain groups.
The Sri Lankan Embassy further announces that the Israeli military will take action to control any situation.
Therefore, they have been informed to follow the following steps in the event of a sudden missile attack or terrorist acts.
The statement said that no Sri Lankans were killed in the Iranian missile attacks in June 2025 because almost everyone took refuge in their places of residence or nearby safe houses with the constant awareness of the Israeli security forces and the embassy, as well as the sound of emergency sirens.
However, India has now told its citizens in Iran to leave the country. The United States has also reported that international media is taking steps to evacuate personnel from American military bases in Qatar. At the same time, the Sri Lankan Embassy in Israel also states that it appears that steps are being taken to suspend or restrict certain flights passing through the region.
The set of instructions given in the statement,
- It has been informed to be vigilant about the awareness being given by the Israeli media and security forces.
- People using medication for illness should keep their medication very close by.
*If the telephones are switched off due to a power outage or internet system outage, people in Sri Lanka should avoid unnecessary panic.
*If people working in open areas receive a warning during their working hours, they should seek shelter in the nearest safe place.
*If an emergency occurs while traveling in a vehicle, get out of the vehicle and move to the nearest shelter.
- Those who are planning to visit Israel in the coming days are advised to be vigilant about the current situation.
- Although the Embassy will be closed today (15) for Thai Pongal Day and tomorrow (16) and the day after (17) due to the Israeli government’s weekend holiday, please note that the Embassy will remain open for emergency services in the event of an unexpected emergency.
