The inaugural initiative of providing Sri Lankan passports for all countries to Sri Lankans currently residing in Tamil Nadu took place at the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner’s office in Chennai recently. The first 197 applicants resettled in Tamil Nadu, India, were given Sri Lankan passports on this occasion.
Under the guidance of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Chennai is implementing this program. Senior Advisor to the President Sagala Ratnayake, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to India Kshenuka Seneviratne and Governor of Eastern Province of Sri Lanka Senthil Thondaman participated in this event.
A large number of Sri Lankans who left the country since 1983 are still living in Tamil Nadu.
