Sri Lankan Permanent Representative in Geneva Fined $100,000

Former Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner to Australia Himali Arunathilaka has been fined $117,028.80 by the Australian Federal Court for abusing her domestic worker, Priyanka Danaratne. .

The court has ordered the defendant Himali Arunathilaka to pay the fine within 60 days after it was found that the domestic worker, a Sri Lankan, had not been paid her wages properly while she worked at her Canberra residence from 2016 to 2018.

In addition, the court had previously ordered her to pay $374,151.90 in compensation to Priyanka Danaratne.

Ms. Himali Arunathilaka is currently serving as the Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in Geneva.
