Sri lanka will be loosing 90% of USAID

A government spokesman said that the financial assistance received by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to the country will be cut by about 90 percent after April.

Accordingly, he said that the funds provided by the agency to the Sri Lankan government and various non-governmental organizations will be reduced.

He further stated that four government projects implemented with US aid have also been suspended.

He said that in 2024 alone, the government and the private sector had received project assistance worth Rs. 21 billion from the agency and stated that with this decision, those grants will come to an end.

The spokesperson further stated that although an opportunity has been requested from the Sri Lankan representative of the United States Agency for International Development to discuss this matter, no response has been received so far.
