Sri Lanka U19s win 5th ODI

Sri Lanka U19s secured a 27-run victory in the 5th ODI between the visiting Bangladesh U19s and the Sri Lanka U19s today (05).

This victory is their second in the series and the visiting Bangladesh U19s have won 3 of the 5 matches so far. Accordingly, Bangladesh are currently leading the series 3-2 in the 6-match series.

Sri Lanka made 7 changes in the team for the match played at the SSC Stadium in Colombo. Viran Chamuditha, Suhas Fernando, Kavija Gamage, Adam Hilmi, Jelon Gamage, Wigneswaran Akash and Kugathas Mathulan were brought in to replace Dulnit Sigera, Rehan Peiris, Dinura Damsith, Denura Dimansith, Sanuja Ninduvara, Rasith Nimsara and Himal Ravihansa who had played in the previous match. Of these, Adam Hilmi, Jelon Gamage and Suhas Fernando have won their first Youth ODI caps.

The visiting Bangladesh team has brought in Farhan Shahriar, Iqbal Hossain Emon and Saad Islam in place of Al Fahad, Md Rafi Uzzaman Rafi and Sanjid Mozumder who played in the previous match. Of these, Saad Islam has won his first Youth ODI cap.

The Sri Lankan captain, who won the toss, elected to bat first. Accordingly, all the batsmen who entered the field were dismissed and scored 196 runs.

The highest scorer in that innings was Adam Hilmi, who played his first youth ODI today. He scored 51 runs in 59 balls with 7 fours and a six.

In addition, captain Wimat Dinsara scored 42 runs in 47 balls with 5 fours.

In addition to them, opener Suhas Fernando scored 28 runs in 44 balls with 4 fours and Kithma Vidanapathirana scored 28 runs in 29 balls with 2 fours and a six.

In terms of wickets, Samiun Basir was the best bowler of the innings with 3 wickets for 35 runs. In addition, Farhan Shahriar, Saad Islam and Rizan Hossan took two wickets each and Debasish Deba took one wicket.

In reply, Sri Lanka’s young bowlers managed to restrict Bangladesh to 169 runs. They took the first 3 wickets of the opponents when they were 17 runs and maintained their skills to win with 30 balls remaining in the innings.

In that, Viran Chamuditha and Kugathas Mathulan took 3 wickets each for 26 runs. In addition, Tharusha Navodya took 2 wickets and Kavija Gamage took one wicket.

The top scorer for the losing Bangladesh innings was Samiun Basir. He scored 37 runs off 26 balls with the help of 4 fours and a six.

He also put on a 51-run stand for the 7th wicket with Farid Hasan. Farid Hasan scored 30 runs off 52 balls with the help of 2 fours and a six.

In addition, Md Abdullah scored 32 runs off 59 balls with the help of 2 fours and Rizan Hossan scored 25 runs off 50 balls with the help of 3 fours.

The 6th and final Youth ODI between the two countries will be played on the 8th of this month at the Colts Stadium in Colombo.
