S.L.T.D.A. promises court to take action against illegal tour operetors

The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority has promised before the Supreme Court today (23) that it will take immediate legal action against tour operators who engage in illegal tour operator consultancy activities.

This was when a fundamental rights petition filed by the Sri Lanka Tour Operators Lecturers Association was taken up.

Deputy Solicitor General Dr. Avanthi Perera, appearing for the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, made this announcement.

This petition was considered today before a three-judge Supreme Court bench comprising Justices S. Thurai Raja, Mahinda Samayawardena and Menaka Wijesundara.

When this petition was taken up, Attorney-at-Law Ravindranath Dabare, who appeared on behalf of the petitioner association, presented evidence before the court and stated that due to illegal tourist route consultants, the tourism industry has collapsed and the country is losing foreign exchange completely.

He also stated that the respondents should take appropriate steps to prevent this situation.

Deputy Solicitor General Dr. Avanthi Perera, who appeared on behalf of the respondents, presented evidence before the court and informed the court that the Tourism Development Authority expects to establish a separate bureau to resolve this situation and that it expects to take the necessary legal action in this regard within three months.

The hearing of the petition was then concluded.
