The Sri Lanka Police has requested the International Police to issue 200 red notices within a year, said Police Media Spokesperson ASP F.U. Wootler.
The police have also successfully extradited 17 suspects to Sri Lanka in response to these requests.
ASP Wootler confirmed that all these red notices have been issued since the new government came to power.
Although the 17 individuals have been brought back to the country, he stressed that their cases are still pending as the legal process is ongoing.
Highlighting the complexities of implementing international law, he said, “Traditionally, extradition can only take place after the adoption of reciprocal agreements based on mutual consent between the countries involved. These processes can take time. And they require extensive international coordination.”
