Sri Lanka has the support of 193 countries in the United Nations General Assembly.

Sri Lanka has the vice presidency of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly. For this, 193 countries have supported Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka has been unanimously elected for the post of Vice President.

Several foreign media had reported that this situation is a remarkable achievement when looking at the disgraceful situation that Sri Lanka had in the past.

Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Mohan Peiris, is scheduled to take over the relevant post for the period from September 2023 to September 2024 for the Asia Pacific region.

The 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly will begin on September 12 and will continue until September 25.
