Sri Lanka has fully paid its dues to the United Nations for 2025. Accordingly, Sri Lanka has also been included among the 93 countries on the honorable list out of its 193 member countries.
As a developing country, Sri Lanka’s annual membership fees are low at around $1.3 million. But that is still high compared to the Maldivian membership fee of $136,000.
The United Nations, which is facing a financial crisis largely due to non-payment of dues by member states and is currently undergoing budget cuts, is said to have reported the largest non-payment by the United States.
The United States, the largest contributor, pays 22% of the UN’s regular budget and 27% of the peacekeeping budget.
