The Sri Lanka Cricket Association had organized a ceremony to present gifts to the medal winners of the 2023 Asian Games in appreciation of the international fame they have brought to the country.
Under the guidance of Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva, the Executive Committee had organized this event and the appreciation ceremony was held this evening at the Sri Lanka Cricket Headquarters.
11 Asian medal winners and two coaches participated in the event and they were welcomed by Sri Lanka Cricket President Shammi Silva, Vice President Raveen Wickramaratne, Treasurer Sujeeva Godaliedda, Deputy Secretary Krishantha Kapuwatta and Assistant Treasurer Lasantha Wickramasinghe.
Sri Lanka Cricket Institute Executive Committee member Kitsiri de Silva, Olympic medalist Susanthika Jayasinghe, Sri Lanka Athletics Association President Major General Palitha Fernando, Sri Lanka Athletics Association Secretary Saman Kumara also joined the event.
2023 Asian Games gold medalist Tarushi Karunaratne, ‘silver medalist’ Nadisha Dilhani Lekamge and 09 sportspersons were evaluated and cash prizes were awarded here.
Asian gold medalist Tarushi Karunaratne was awarded 10 million rupees for her gold medal, 1 million rupees for her bronze medal, and 5 million rupees was awarded to silver medalist Nadisha Dilhani lekamge.
Pasindu Kodikara, Aruna Darshan, Kalinga Kumarage, Pabasara Nikoo, Rajitha Rajakaruna, Dinuka Deshan, Nadisha Ramanayake, Sayuru Lakshima, and Jayeshi Uttara were awarded Rs 1 million each for their bronze medals.
In addition, Tarushi Karunaratne’s trainer Susantha Fernando was awarded two million rupees and Dilhani lekamge’s trainer Nishantha Pradeep was awarded one million rupees.
This prize was givrn as part of the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute’s social responsibility programme.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Cricket Institute has planned to hold a special event in the next few weeks to honor the silver medal winners of the 2023 Asian Games.
