Sri Lanka and Pakistan reach agreement on prisoners

Sri Lanka and Pakistan have reached an agreement to take immediate steps to repatriate prisoners serving prison terms in their countries.

Accordingly, attention has been focused on sending 43 Pakistani citizens who are serving prison terms in Sri Lanka back to Pakistan recently in the discussion held with Pakistan’s Sri Lankan High Commissioner Admiral (retired) Ravindra Gunaratne and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

The two sides have agreed to increase cooperation in the field of security and drug prevention as matters of mutual importance and development of bilateral relations were discussed in this meeting.

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said in a statement that the arrangements for the repatriation of Pakistani prisoners would be completed within a few days. In this regard, the diplomatic intervention of the Sri Lankan ambassador is appreciated.
