Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Manjula Seneviratne was elected as the chairman today (19) after securing power in the Aranayake Pradeshiya Sabha.
The election of the Vice-Chairman was held without an open ballot and G.W. Iresha of the Sarvajana Balawegaya Party was elected unopposed.
The National People’s Power Party had won the Aranayaka Pradeshiya Sabha by securing 13 seats in the local government elections.
The election to elect a new Chairman for the Aranayaka Pradeshiya Sabha was held this afternoon at the Pradeshiya Sabha meeting hall under the patronage of Sabaragamuwa Local Government Commissioner L.M.P.W. Bandara.
The name of Rohana Dilip Kumara Fernando was proposed as the Chairman of the Council and the name of Manjula Seneviratne was proposed as the Chairman of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
In the subsequent ballot, the National People’s Power Party candidate secured only 13 votes while the Samagi Jana Balawegaya candidate secured 16 votes. The Jana Aragala Party MP had abstained from voting.
