The party has reportedly informed the elected chairman of the Norwood pradesheeya sabaha, John Francis Allen, to submit a letter of resignation from the post.
In protest against the decision, six NPP members representing the Norwood Provincial Council have decided to act as independent members. The members say that this decision was taken due to threats and pressure from a NPP Nuwara Eliya leader.
The NPP obtained the support of five Tamil Progressive Alliance members to form the Norwood Provincial Council.
