The number of candidates contesting the election to appoint the Diyawadana Nilame of the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy has increased to six.
The current acting Diyawadana Nilame Pradeep Nilanga Dela, Daminda Bandara, A. W. S. Bandaranaike, Gamini Kaluhendiwala, Roshan Passaramudalige and Professor Thilak Subhasinghe are scheduled to contest this election.
It is reported that a tough competition will be created as six candidates, including the current Diyawadana Nilame, are contesting for the office.
