Ship captain remanded for sexually assaulting a flight attendant

A captain of a ship who allegedly sexually assaulted an Emirates flight attendant has been remanded until the 5th. The person remanded is Kanakasabapathi Kushanthan, a 49-year-old resident of Jaffna.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thanuja Lakmali issued this order today (29).

He was arrested by the Airport Police and produced before the court and was remanded.

The Airport Police, presenting evidence to the court, requested that the suspect be remanded as they are investigating the internationally infamous incident of touching and sexually assaulting the 39-year-old Emirates flight attendant of African origin upon her arrival from Dubai.

After considering the facts, the magistrate remanded the suspect in custody and ordered the case to be remanded and the progress of the investigation to be presented on the 5th.
