Replacing the blackboard with a smart board is not digitizing education

Education Minister Susil Premajayantha recently said that the digitization of education is not just replacing blackboards with smart boards, it should be implemented with a broader purpose and vision.

He said this while joining a program to inform ministry officials about digitalization of education.

The minister said that Sri Lanka has received a grant of 20 million dollars from China to digitize the general education system.

As part of the new education transformation, from January 2025, the Chinese government will provide 1,000 smart boards, benefiting 500 schools across Sri Lanka.

Furthermore, the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) will fund the purchase of another 1,000 smart boards. The minister emphasized that while the necessary infrastructure is being developed, foreign aid should be utilized step by step without delay.
