The Rebuilding Sri Lanka Program, which was launched to rebuild the country from the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditva, is receiving a large amount of financial assistance from local and overseas Sri Lankans and various institutions. The Fund has so far received Rs. 1,893 million, said Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development.
He also said that a discussion was held under the chairmanship of the Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka and with the participation of the heads of all insurance institutions to formulate a program to provide compensation for businesses and properties damaged by the cyclone.
The Secretary also stated that, as revealed during the discussion, all insurance companies have already initiated a system to provide prompt compensation for businesses, property and lives damaged in this disaster situation.
