A six-month-old baby who was injured in a car accident involving a jeep driven by former Speaker and MP Ashoka Ranwala last night is reportedly in critical condition.
In such a situation, the father and relatives of the child say that an investigation was not conducted to determine whether the MP was drunk until hours after the accident.
The father of the child states that a large tumor the size of a mango has formed on the back of the head of the six-month-old baby who was injured in the accident. He states that the baby is currently crying, not drinking milk, and the swelling on his head has not yet subsided.
In addition, he says that his mother’s leg is broken in two places, and the mother and wife have been admitted to the National Hospital and are being prepared for surgery.
The child’s father, speaking to the media, said that MP Ashoka Ranwala came to meet him and said, “I made a mistake, please forgive me.”
He also said that Ashoka Ranwala’s son, a doctor, said, “The child is six months old. There is nothing to worry about at the accident .”
He alleges that even though the accident happened yesterday, no investigation has been conducted to determine whether the MP was drunk until today. He says that Ashoka Ranwala arrived at the hospital a few hours later, at around 12 midnight, even though the accident happened at around 7 pm. He says that he was hospitalized claiming that his blood pressure had increased and that he went into the hospital in a wheelchair.
The child’s relatives say that the injured child’s mother and grandmother were in two trolleys at the National Hospital, but their relatives were not allowed to enter. However, they allege that the MP’s supporters drove vehicles straight into the hospital.
The father and relatives say they were allowed to enter the hospital easily even when they were not allowed to.
