The case filed against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe under the Public Property Act is scheduled to be taken up again tomorrow (29) at the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court.
He has been accused of using government funds for a private trip to the University of Wolverhampton in the United Kingdom for a graduation ceremony. The former President has been accused of causing a loss to the government by spending an excessive amount of Rs. 16.9 million over a period of one and a half days.
In connection with this incident, the former President was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department on August 22, 2025. Following his arrest, the former President was produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Nilupuli Lankapura and remanded in custody, and the case was taken up again on August 26. The former President was released on bail.
