The Colombo Grand Mosque announced last night that due to the sighting of the new crescent moon, the fasting month of Ramadan for the Muslim community in Sri Lanka will begin today (12).
Muslims around the world fast and pray during the month of Ramadan, commemorating the revelation of the Qur’an to the Prophet Muhammad on the night of ‘Lailat Al Qadr’.
Fasting during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, is considered one of the five pillars of Islam.
