The court has ordered the release on bail of Priyantha Mayadunne, a former Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration, who was arrested on suspicion of a financial fraud of Rs. 180 million.
Following his arrest this afternoon, he was produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court. It is reported that he was ordered to be released on a surety bond of Rs. 200,000.
Investigations are underway against him in connection with the embezzlement of Rs. 183 million from the Cooperative Fund while serving as the Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Cooperatives and Internal Trade in 2011.
