A private bus conductor has been arrested by the Bandarawela Police on suspicion of stealing a SLTB bus that was parked at the Bandarawela main bus stand at night.
The person arrested is a resident of Atampitiya Estate, Bandarawela.
The bus, belonging to the Wellawaya depot, was parked at the Bandarawela bus stand with the intention of leaving for Matara the next morning when the theft occurred.
The suspect, who arrived at the bus stand after drinking alcohol, boarded the bus and slept there. The next morning, he started the bus and drove it along the Bandarawela-Colombo main road, went to Welihela via Diyathalawa and abandoned it on the side of the road.
