Although the statement made by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake did not directly state that money will not be given to local government institutions that do not have power over the National People’s Power, it will have an undue influence in accordance with Section 82 of the Local Government Elections Ordinance, says Rohana Hettiarachchi, Executive Director of the PAFFREL organization.
Issuing a media release today (18), he stated that the statement made by the President regarding the provision of money to local government institutions will have an undue influence on the voter.
Rohana Hettiarachchi says that society does not expect such statements from a political party leader who has vowed to change the political culture of the country, taken the lead in this regard and set an example to direct the electoral culture in a positive direction, and hopes that the President will not make such statements in the future.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake had stated, while addressing public meetings in Kantale, Mannar and several other areas, that he would extend his hand and provide funds to local government institutions that are in power under the National People’s Power and that he would think ten times before providing funds to other local government institutions.
