The official vehicle of the President’s Secretary, Sanath Kumanayake, official car has been involved in an accident.
The accident occurred at around 9 pm on the 2nd near the army camp on the Pelwatte-Akuregoda road.
The luxury car, which was traveling from Pelwatte to Akure Goda, collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. The mother, father and two children, aged two and six, from the same family who were traveling on the motorcycle, were injured and hospitalized.
After all four of them were admitted to the Colombo National Hospital, the mother and the two young children were transferred to the Ridgeway Arya Children’s Hospital for Futher treatment.
The police said that the car involved in the accident was the official vehicle of the President’s Secretary, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake. The wife of the President’s Secretary and the driver were in the official car at the time. The driver was arrested by the police and produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court, was released on bail.
The court has also ordered the driver to pay Rs. 35,000 in compensation to the family of the motorcyclist.
