The CID has informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Tanuja Lakmali that it has initiated an investigation into individuals who attempted to spread false information regarding President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s official visit to Germany.
Additional Secretary to the President G. Subhash Chaminda Roshan has filed a complaint in this regard.
Investigating officers reported that former Minister Udaya Gammanpila made a false statement publicly at a media briefing that he would meet a former LTTE leader during the President’s visit to Germany and that this statement was widely distributed through various media outlets and the internet.
The officers further stated that this statement was made with the intention of discrediting the President and causing inconvenience to the government.
The Chief Magistrate has ordered that the progress of the investigation be presented to the court promptly.
