It has been revealed that the Presidential Guard officers who arrived at the Katunayake Airport when President Anura Kumara Dissanayake was leaving for the Maldives on a state visit recently, had taken 25 bottles of foreign liquor from the airport’s duty free shop.
However, since the officers did not leave for the Maldives with the President, they do not have legal permission to purchase goods from the duty free shop.
After investigating the matter through CCTV video, the airport officers informed the relevant departments about it and 7 officers including a Chief Inspector of Police of the Presidential Guard involved in the incident have been transferred with immediate effect. It is reported that the Police Department has also initiated a special investigation into this incident.
