Prasanna Ranaweera surrenders to court after two months in hiding

Former State Minister Prasanna Ranaweera has surrendered to the Mahara Magistrate’s Court after evading arrest in a case related to the sale of illegal property.

Ranaweera was wanted by the Criminal Investigation Department on charges of selling government land in the Kiribathgoda area to a private party by forging documents.

Ranaweera and another suspect are accused of evading arrest, and the court had previously issued warrants to seize their properties.

Meanwhile, former Minister Mervyn Silva and three others are in remand custody after being arrested in the same case.

The court rejected his petition seeking an order preventing his arrest in connection with this allegation.
